Military surplus stores offer a range of army clothing and other products. Ultimately of course, the type of clothing that the consumer seeks is motivated by the use that they envisage making of it. - Apart from combat trousers and those buying military surplus for fashion, military surplus stores are of course popular with people wanting hardwearing clothing (and other items such as backpacks) which are excellent value. Also, reusing clothing and products that are surplus to the requirements of the government is an excellent practical example of recycling and the conservation of scarce resources.
- A few years ago army surplus had an image issue with many mainstream outdoor folk eschewing it in favour of high image branded equipment. Partly because of the boost to army surplus given by its increased fashion prominence and partly because of an increase in quality availability, many more people are purchasing military surplus these days. The increase in the availability of quality products in recent years has coincided with the widespread adoption of a classification system which grades surplus by its quality depending on the extent of its use. The grading system reflects whether or not the item has been issued or not (and therefore as "good as new") or whether the item has been worn and what standard it is.
Whether a consumer is choosing army surplus clothing and other products for the military look or for its military qualities, shopping at army surplus stores will ensure that consumers get genuine products at great value prices. Followers of fashion are also advised to consider military surplus stores ahead of other high street options as the value for money and the high quality found in genuine military clothing is rarely matched in fashion stores.

can you change your standard issue weapon in the army?
if the army issues you a weapon (handgun) and that is, lets say a 9mm, and that's the standard handgun for soldiers to carry, can you buy your own, lets say .45 and replace the 9mm? Also when you get a rifle can you make modifications to them (m4) to suit your needs or just because you want to??
You can't bring your own weapons to use in combat for a variety of reasons I won't get too deep into. You must use the weapons they issue you, but can add your own cool guy gear if you want. For instance, I have a personally owned Eotech holograph site on my issued M4. You can't make any permanent modifications to a weapon.
I have heard of some people trying to put in paperwork to bring personal weapons overseas, but have never actually seen it work out. In all honesty, the M4 is a great carbine and nobody actually uses a pistol over here anyways except to carry around the base because it's more comfortable than dragging around a rifle.
