How do I keep an Autumn Blaze Maple Tree Alive?
I live in a desert terrain and have purchased and planted an Autumn Blaze Maple Tree. All the research I did on the web indicates that this type of maple tree can thrive in this zone because it is hearty and drought tolerant. I planted the tree in May but we have had some strong wind storms and temperatures in the high 90's to low 100's. What I am seeing now is the leaves all look like they are singed. Can the tree survive and produce healthy leaves later in the year when the weather is cooler or is my tree doomed?
I've seen it advertised as doing well in zones 3-9, but also 3-8. So many dessert conditions are pushing its limits.
It was developed in Northern Ohio. Is said to do well from Northern Michigan to mid-Florida...but all through there is decent rainfall. Maples like lots of water.
The ones in Colorado are reported to be suceptible to tip die-back in extreme conditions.
A tree can survive the complete loss of leaves. So if this doesn't happen to your tree every year, it should be okay. You will need to give it lots of water.
