Belt Loop
Four main species of gnat-type insects bug us inside our homes:Â
- The Fruit Fly (lays its eggs in fermenting organic materials, such as overripe fruit, in left over waste on the bottoms of trashcans, even in vegetables that are beginning to go bad.)
- The Phorid Fly (rhymes with horrid, doesn't it?) looks like the Fruit Fly, but is much more active. With strong, well-developed legs this fly runs around a lot. Phorid flies lay their eggs in decaying garbage.
- The Fungus Fly lays its eggs in the fungus (usually caused by over watering) growing in the soil of potted plants in the home.
- The Drain Fly is larger than the Fruit and Phorid Flies. This fly sports football-shaped wings, and we identify them usually by that wing shape. They prefer unused, dirty drains for laying eggs; they stay close to their birth site through their short life. You'll rarely see Drain Flies in an occupied house.
Every time I found, and treated for, an indoor gnat infestation I identified the cause as a housekeeping issue.
Normally when you see a cloud of fruit flies, or a wall speckled with their resting bodies, you'll find trash nearby that they're laying eggs in. Allowing trash to sit for two or more days is a quick way to invite this pest into your home. Find what they're breeding in, and remove it.
Phorid flies swarm to organic materials left sitting also, but they aren't attracted to garbage until it sits for longer than three days, and turns to a rotting, putrid substance. I seen these guys mostly in kitchens, and getting rid of them requires some serious cleaning, and sanitizing. Clear away the decaying material, and clean the area with a good bacterial cleaner.
Treating fungus flies is not hard. First find the plant they're laying their eggs in, it's the plant where they stay closest. The fastest way to rid yourself of fungus flies is just throw the plant out. To save the plant, try getting a fungus treatment from a florist or nursery.
If you don't have unused drains in your home you rarely see drain flies. If they show up in your place of work, look for an unused drain. It's always close to where you see the fly. The quickest treatment is simply pouring water down the drain to rinse the accumulated gunk away.
Outdoors gnats become super nuisances, especially when people gather for a cookout or other gathering. Attention to housekeeping (keeping garbage cans clean, etc.) helps keep them away, but some gnats just don't take the hint that they aren't wanted.
You need some extra action to stop these guys from buzzing around your eyes and ears.
I found Skin So Soft Bath Oil, mixed with water in a spray bottle, works well. Mix 5 capfuls with a quart of water (shake it up good before you apply it because it's an oil, and separates from the water quickly).
Another item that helped me avoid outdoor gnat attacks is Bounce fabric softener. I guess they don't like the smell. Hang one sheet through a belt loop or from a pocket, and roll another sheet up in a headband. I used to wrap the sheet around the outside of the headband, but found that it irritated my skin.

Does it look right to wear a belt with trousers without belt loops?
Does it look right to wear a belt with trousers without belt loops - Or does it just look weird? My school trousers are getting loose (lol XD) and i might need a belt, my trousers don't have belt loops but i can put the belt around me and it won't fall down - will it look alright?
It wouldn't look right at all, and if the pants are loose then they would slip under the belt and you'd have to adjust it all day. I would sew some elastic on the inside of the pants' waist so they will be a little snugger, but a belt with pants with no belt loops would look retarded.
