Silver salmon are not as large, usually around 10 to pounds but the record is 100 pounds. King salmon are a bit larger running in the neighborhood of 70 pounds. The summer months bring many anglers from all over the world to compete in derbies or just fish for fun. There is even packaging and shipping available if you want your friends to have some of the award winning halibut that Alaska offers. There may even be enough for everyone to enjoy.
Fly-fishing is another option you have while visiting Alaska. You can take a small charter plane to a remote lake or stream. These planes have been operating for years and are equipped with floats for water take-offs and landings. They can easily take you where the fish are and the people are not. Fishing this way offers you access to the most remote regions of Alaska and is fully equipped with a tour guide, fishing gear and anything else you may need. Anchorage offers many options while choosing a small charter plane.
You can also fish from a jet boat out of Talkeetna, Alaska. The Talkeetna River is the home to the second largest run of migrating fish in the world. These jet boats provide you with not only an experienced guide and fishing equipment but also access to remote areas that rarely see people. These jet boats can reach over 200 miles of prime fishing. There are full-day and half-day excursions to choose. The only thing you need to fish Alaska is a fishing license and a sense of adventure.
These are just a few of the fishing excursions you can experience in Alaska. The things to keep in mind are finding a charter with experienced guides. These guides will know where the fish are for that time of year and the exact technique to use to catch them. Planning a trip to Alaska is costly and you do not want to finally get there only to have an inexperienced guide lead you in all the wrong directions. Make sure to book ahead of time especially in the months of July where tourism is the busiest.

Personal dislikes of bivy bags:
1) cramped space; difficult to change clothes in, difficult to even lay out the sleeping bag in some cases, and I hate having anything in or close to my face when I sleep.
2) condensation; even the higher end bags constructed of breathable materials.
