Cammenga Tritium
I am looking to buy a Cammenga Military Compass for my Army career. Which is better, Tritium or Phosphorescent?
I know they are both the same thing and that the Phosphorescent is half the price of the Tritium illuminated one, but price isnt the issue. I just need to know which has better illumination and better life span of the illumination itself. Thanks

Actually they are not the same thing. Phosphorescent illumination is based on absorbing light, like glow in the dark toys. If kept in the dark for along period of time it will cease to glow. Tritium is radioactive hydrogen and will glow continuously for many years. Usually tritium will remain bright for about nine years and then slowly fade. I have a tritium based compass, which is the same as the one used by the military and I like it much better than the civilian version. Whether or not it is worth the money depends on you and how often you will be using the compass at night.
