Anyone whose ever spent an evening or night in the company of good friends in front of a camp fire or even the open fire hearth in an fine old house will know that the warm natural light cast by real flames is a very special and unique thing. Likewise anyone whose ever been in a room entirely and solely lit by candles, either due to a power cut or choice will possess the same knowledge. Thinking on these criteria, it becomes clear that pretty much everyone in the known world has at one point experienced the uniqueness of light spread by natural flame.
Bearing this in mind. It seems hard to understand why anyone would chose electric light over natural in any situation which does not demand intense, or in truth, practical light. The reason though has to be the perceived ease of use when it comes to simply plugging in an electric light or going through the hassle of placing a candle and lighting them. Added to this are the safety considerations of the danger of candles falling over and perhaps causing a fire, or also, though not so serious, covering the carpet or other materials in wax.
This is where candle lanterns comes into play. They provide the safe assurance that the flame can spread no where else apart from the candle and the confines of the lantern. Likewise the liquid wax, that anathema of all materials, is also kept safely and cleanly within the confines of the lantern; therefore, providing the perfect synergy between the safety of electric lighting and the spirit warming benefits of natural lighting. As to the ease of use of electric lighting over natural, that still is its true a pertinent aspect. But surely the slight extra effort is worth the amazing ambiance provided by natural light safely and cleanly housed within a candle lanterns stoic confines

Biochemistry problem!! Please Help?
Hi, the problem is a follows: The absorbance of a sample (enzyme and AMP) is 0.46 at 280nm and 0.58 at 260 nm. Calculate the concentration of enzyme and AMP given that.
For the enzyme the (molecular coefficient) is 2.96x10*4 at 280nm and 1.52x10*4 at 260nm.
The AMP has a molecular coefficient of 2.4x10*3 at 280nm and 1.5x10*4 at 260nm.
All these concentrations are in M cm. The path length is 1cm.
Now I know I should use the following equation.
A280nm = Eenz x Cenz x Lenz + Eamp x Camp x Lamp and the same for the wavelength at 260nm.
I know the answer for the enzyme is 1.36x10*-5M and AMP is 2.50x10*-5M. But my problem is I dot know how to manipulate the about equation to get the right answer.

In the equation given for A280, plug in the values, and you'll have 2 unknowns. One for Cenz and one for Camp. You can do the same for the equation for A260 and again plug in the values. You now have 2 equations with 2 unknowns, so you can solve one in terms of the other. That should be sufficient to solve for both unknowns, i.e. Cenz and Camp.
