Camping Fishing

Big Sur is a beautiful area on California's central coast and covers about a 90 mile length of coastline between Ragged Point to Carmel in the north. About 20 miles to the east the area is bordered by the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, which rises sharply above the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy beautiful ocean views, beaches, inland forests, and an abundance of interesting wildlife. Big Sur is a popular spot for whale watching. Gray Whales, Blue Whales, and Humpback Whales can be seen migrating up and down the coast many months out of the year. California Condors flying overhead and blubbery Elephant Seals sprawled out on the beach, soaking up the sun, are also fun to see.
Camping in Big Sur is very popular and there are many nice campgrounds both near the beach and a little ways inland. Both public and private campgrounds are available and these offer a wide range of amenities. Whether its pitching a tent or setting up your trailer or RV, the right campsite can make the perfect base camp for you to explore the beach and the rest of the Big Sur area. Here are some campgrounds that you may want to consider that offer camping near the beach.
Kirk Creek Campground - This is a U.S. Forest Service campground that offers 34 sites. It is located on a bluff overlooking the ocean, and provides breathtaking views of the coastline. It can accommodate both tent and RV campers, and the sites are spacious with picnic tables and fire rings. The beach can be accessed by a trail from the campground. Also, this campground is nearby Sand Dollar Beach, the largest sandy beach in the Big Sur area. This area is very popular for fishing, surfing, swimming, sun bathing, hiking and many other outdoor activities.
Andrew Molera State Park - Located 20 miles south of Carmel along Highway 1, this park is still pretty much undeveloped and offers great hiking, fishing and beachcombing opportunities for visitors. This park has 24 campsites offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The Big Sur River runs through the park and there are miles of trails that wind through beaches, meadows, and hilltops that the whole family will enjoy.
Limekiln State Park - This 716 acre park is located about 56 miles south of Carmel and offers 33 developed campsites and a small camp store. The park features breathtaking views of the Big Sur Coast, spectacular Redwoods, and other magnificent scenery.
Plaskett Creek Campground - This campground is located approximately 40 miles north of Cambria and sits on the east side of Highway 1, just south of Sand Dollar Beach. There are 44 spacious campsites located here. All sites have grass and are in amongst a canopy of mature Monterey Pines and Monterey Cypress trees. This is a very popular area for surfing, swimming, fishing and other beach activities. Within a short drive many trails can be accessed for hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. These trails allow you to enjoy cascading water falls, majestic groves of Redwoods, and other breathtaking views.
This is truly a spectacular area and one that you will want your whole family to enjoy. The Big Sur area has many more campgrounds to choose from. I have listed some of those that have good access to the beach, and hopefully this has given you some ideas for your next family vacation. Be sure to take the time to create some special memories with your family. You will be glad that you did. Have fun!

What is your favorite camping/fishing place?
I'm around Dupage county,Illinois near Chicago.
A camping/fishing destination that I've stayed at near Chicago?
The best fishing/camping experience I've had (relatively close to you) would be at Gunflint Pines Lodge MN near the border of Canada.
Go to http://www.gunflintpines.com/camp_cabins.shtml
Camping cabins are fantastic! They eliminate the hassle of tent and camp set-up, are more secure and comfortable than ANY traditional tent camping, have electric facility's for heaters/electric coolers/hot-plates/ Etc and generally sleep better after a hard day of fishing.
The Gunflint Pines lodge is a GREAT fishing destination where you can catch (literally) 50-100 fish per day! Gunflint Pines is located on the border of Canada and has access to tons of fishing opportunity's because of the many various lakes in the region.
And at $57 a night you can't find a better accommodation, (period!).
Gunflint Lake has great Walleye and Lake trout fishing.
Loon Lake has great Small-mouth Bass and Northern fishing.
Go check it out.
