Camping Gear

When people are planning a camping trip, whether it be their first experience or they are an old hand, one of the first considerations to take into account is what to bring camping. If you bring too much equipment then you will never get it all in the RV or truck. Bring too little and you will find yourself missing half the equipment that may make your camping trip that little bit more enjoyable.
One of the best ways to ascertain what to take on a camping trip is to compile a camping equipment list. This is a list that you can use an adapt time and time again, as your camping experiences grow. However when we make a list there are certain items that you should never be without. these are known as your camping essentials. Here are some essential items that you should bring with you for a camping trip.
1) Food Supplies
Whether or not you have meals that need to be cooked, prepared, or M.R.E (meals ready to eat) packs, you need to make sure you have sufficient food and water for the duration of your trip. Excessive foodstuffs and you will have wastage. Too little food and your trip could be a miserable experience. So plan your food and exercise portion control.
2) Sleeping Equipment
Sounds obvious I know! However go through your camping equipment check list and make sure that everything is in good working order. Another good idea is to check the weather forecast for the particular areas you are visiting. That way you will get a better idea of how cold or warm it´s going to be. Then you can pack accordingly.
3) First aid kit
A simple first aid kit does not have to be expensive to buy. In fact you can make your own up. Mine generally consists of a few sticking plasters, some bandage, a few headache tablets, some antiseptic cream, and some insect repellent. Really it is whatever you think that you might need, but it is very important!
4) Cooking equipment
This includes pots and pans, plates etc, as well as what you are going to cook on. There is nothing more frustrating to learn that you have not got enough cooking utensils or equipment to get the job done. A good idea is to go through your food lists for each meal, and ask yourself what in the way of cooking utensils you will need. Then compile a separate list. This way you will know you have it covered.
5) Camping food storage containers
This covers coolers as well as tupperware to keep things fresh. Without these items then food will spoil very quickly. A good idea is to have One designated cool box that you pack with ice. That you will only open limited times a day. Thus keeping it cooler longer. Transfer everything that you are going to need for that day into a smaller cool box and use that.
6) Lighting
This covers torches, candles and possibly tent lights. A good strong beamed durable torch is ideal such as a Maglite. Ideal for those necessary trips to the loo in the middle of the night.
7) Backpacking equipment/Daysacks
most people when camping do not stay at the camping site the whole time. They like to get out and about to explore the surrounding area, So make sure you have your backpack or better still daysack packed with all your equipment necessary for your days activities.
Handibox
What I like to do is to make up a little handibox for items that might come in handy for the trip ahead. Items such as nylon cord or string, tye-wraps, and a multitool or pocket knife. You never know when you are going to need them, and they could even save your life.
9) Sufficient clothing
Again another obvious suggestion, however, a couple of tips regarding clothing...
1) Try to take clothing which can be washed and dried quickly, that way you can turn items around and wear them more than once.
2) Always keep your clothing in a waterproof sack or bag, as there is nothing worse than wearing wet clothing.
10 Map and compass
Another very important item to bring that will aid you when you are out trekking etc. Especially important if you are camping in the back country.
If you follow these short guidelines then you will not go far wrong, and deciding what to bring camping will not be such of a dilemma after all.
Having the right gear for your camping trip, can be the difference between a really great experience and a thoroughly miserable time I have given you some essential items that you need when deciding what to take camping However this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you really take your camping seriously and want to make sure that you are well prepared then you must visit www.outdoorhikingequipment.info for more essential tips that you cannot afford to miss.

Really though, even though there are plenty of designs and colors, you don't usually pick gear this way, that is, based on looks. You want the item that meets your needs and fits your budget. Usually if you are hiking you want your items to be as lightweight as possible so your backpack isn't too heavy. But the weather will always affect your major choices. In summer you need less clothing, less bulky sleeping gear, can use a lighter weight tent...etc...it all fits in a smaller pack.
For a winter hike, your clothing absolutely must be suitable for the weather, no matter what, this is for safety. You need to stay warm but you don't want to sweat. Dress in layers so you can add and shed pieces depending on your needs. You want 4 distinct layers: a thermal layer like long johns or under armor, a light layer like a long sleeve T-shirt, at least one warm layer like wool or fleece, and a waterproof layer like a rain jacket or poncho. Also avoid COTTON except for undies. Your layers described above must be synthetic (polyester), wool, or silk. If you get cotton wet in the cold, it will not keep you warm. Vests are handy because they keep your core warm...which is your chest and abdominal area...where all your organs are.
For what it is worth...
Jansport makes pretty bookbags, and they are very durable. These would be suitable for a day hike but not backpacking.
Kelty has bright colored sleeping bags, tents, and packs. This is "real" gear, and it is relatively affordable. It is on the lowbudget of the real deal.
Slumberjack makes pretty sleeping bags. This is another low-end outfitter but they make camping gear as opposed to sleepover gear.
Another piece with a lot of choices in pattern are travel hammocks. Look for parachute nylon. They are pretty reasonable price, and they ball up in your hand. You can hang them between two trees for a very restful nap or afternoon with a book.
You can also express yourself with your water bottle. Try a Nalgene bottle, it is almost indestructible. They come in lots of colors.
I suggest really...that you borrow your tent and sleeping bags, etc. And spend your money on good boots and raingear, gloves, skiband and beanie hats.
