Purchase a Keychain
The first thing you will need for your personal survival kit is the right keychain that is easy to take things off and put things on as well as one that isn't too bulky. There are two types of key chains that are superior - carbine key chains and the two-part ones that easily pull apart. I prefer the two piece key chains because they are easier to pull apart and put together. However you may have to replace these more often due to a tendency for the connector to wear out.
Purchase a Multi-purpose tool
A Swiss army knife can work just as well as a multi-purpose tool since they both have similar pieces included. The important features to look for are a screwdriver, a small saw tooth blade, a moderately durable knife, scissors, can and bottle openers and finally a corkscrew. A good bonus item is a pair of tweezers since cuts and splinters are likely in the "wilderness."
Purchase Some Personal Safety Supplies
As if surviving on your own wasn't scary enough, now you have to worry about protecting yourself from the creeps and the creepy crawlers out there. An ordinary plastic safety whistle should be good enough to do the job while being very light to carry around. Pepper spray is also relatively easy to find, buy and carry around. If you're every in serious danger of getting attacked - pepper spray can give you the few seconds needed to get away.
Purchase Supplies to Help You See
Every year as I'm walking around the camping department of my local sporting goods store, I find flashlights are getting smaller and smaller, yet brighter and brighter at the same time. A simple mini LED flashlight that turns on with a squeeze is more than sufficient in this case. So you can saw, spray, and see...what else is there?
Really Miscellaneous Supplies
If you think you may get lost somewhere out in the middle of nowhere and be unable to get to civilization with ease, these supplies will come in handy. First for all the way back to your Boy or Girl Scout days and always carry a compass with you. No matter what trouble you get into, knowing in which direction you are heading is a very helpful piece of information. Next you may want to consider purchasing a fire starter bar. If you're stuck somewhere cold, a fire starter bar is much easier than rubbing two sticks together. Finally, just for the sake of extended protection, you can buy a fully adult-sized rain poncho to keep yourself dry in bad weather.
You may find that your personal needs may be different. Maybe you'll need items not listed in this article, perhaps you'll need less. Just don't learn something out because you think you won't need it. You can never be over-prepared and it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Well maybe we need a boy scout. Where is the honor that America was built on? COME ON AMERICA WAKE UP!!!
Politics is not about morality, as much as the religious right would like you to believe.
It is about re-election and the power that derives from holding office ... whether Democrat or Republican.
There has been no honor in politics since the two parties forgot about what ideologies separated them ... and discovered how important "hot buttons' were. Now ... that's all political discourse is ... "hot buttons" and "sound bites".
Neither party cares about public service, right & wrong, morality or society in general. They care about power ... getting it and keeping it.
The Democrat party is controlled by the most liberal of the populace (about 20%) and the GOP is controlled by about the same percentage of the most conservative voters.
The 60% of us in the middle are forced to choose between two bad choices in virtually every election.
Men and women of conviction can't get the nomination of EITHER party to run for anything ... they have to sell their souls to get the nod. Thus ... the crapola we have running for office today.
