Is it possible to join the Marine Reserves, but change the contract to active duty right before boot camp?
My recruiter told me to sign the contract as Marine reserve and that right before I leave to boot camp he could switch me to active duty. Is this true or is this just a trick to get me to join? The only reason I am considering Marine reserve is because it will get me into boot camp quicker because active duty doesnt open up until some time next year.
1. When you enlist in the reserves, you are in the Reserves from the moment you swear in at Meps the first time.
So to go active duty, your Reserve unit commander would have to release you from your reserve enlistment.
That can happen, but the recruiter cannot do it.
only your reserve unit commander can, and if he is short on people, he is gonna say no.
