Gear Water
The levels of your water supply generally don't matter until you are in a survival or disaster type situation when you actually need some water. If in an urban or city environment, you can prevent water supply problems.
It's good practice to have some drinking water on hand in case there is a disaster caused by weather since water is so important to the body. One place to store this water that makes the most logical sense is the freezer and refrigerator. If your power goes out, it's nice to have containers with frozen water inside that can help keep your food cool as well as having the option to drink it.
If you are in an area with some sort of emergency broadcast or warning for severe storms, it's good practice to try to fill up as many containers as you can with drinking water that will last you at least a few days. Filling up the extra bathtub is a good idea as well just to help you have plenty of supply.
Another idea is to invest in an above ground swimming pool. Sure this water is treated with chemicals like chlorine so it's not the best to drink. But this water can still be used to flush toilets after pouring the water into the tank. You could also wash with this water. The advantage of the above ground pool is that is there is some flooding the water in the pool won't be contaminated like the water would be in a normal pool.
Keep some sort of water purification in the house in case you need to purify after running out of clean water. There is backpacking gear that is very small and good for 50 to 100 gallons that will be suitable and inexpensive.

What type of gearing should I use on a water wheel?
I want to hook the water wheel to a generator so I want to know what type of gearing I should use to get the best speed to power the generator.
Water Wheel is 2 meters in diameter
The water wheel will rotate very slowly, so you will need to gear it up a great deal. A two-meter water wheel will probably rotate once every 2-4 seconds. Let's say three seconds. If you use a car alternator for your generator, you'll want to get the alternator's RPMs up to at least 1,000. That means you'll need gearing on the order of 3,000:1
If you use an AC generator, it will want to turn at a number that is evenly divided by 60 or 50, depending on where you live. (It's 60 in the US.) That means you want a generator speed of 1,200, 2,400 or (ideally) 3,600 RPM. Multiply three times the final speed to get the gear ratio. For example, to get 3,600 RPM, you need gearing of 10,800:1.
