I'm looking for some tips on sharpening a Gerber Machete?
HI. I just purchsed a Gerber Gator Machete the machete with the saw blade down the back. It came super dull out of the package. The blade was obviously "sharpened" at the factory with a double bevel. I thought I would try it out on my Christmas tree but it wouldn't even bite into the branches.
I'm not to concerned about the saw part I don't like it. But I would like to try and salvage the purchase and sharpen the fine edge. at least to a degree that it won't just glance off of soft wood.
thats a dangerous combination // for get the saw part good adviceXXXedit good choice i just imagined sliding a hand down the blade trying to saw,, i keep one to top off mesquite shoots from cuts,,, 10 inch mill bastard files best due to soft temper and hi angle like ax made to bite not slice dont make razor sharp tend to get to close shins on occasion an dull up easier
