What, exactly, is the bleach used to clean a water filter?
I have a Katadyn Vario water filter for backpacking and camping. It worked great last year, but I stored it and haven't used it since.
I never properly stored it, so now it's kind of gross. I want to clean it before using it again.
The instruction manual says to run two tbspns bleach (mixed with so much water) through it... is this to kill of other germs? What exactly is bleach? Am I using laundry bleach? That's kind of gross. Where can I buy bleach in such a small quantity (I never use the stuff) that I can take care of my water filter and any left over I can just use to disinfect the sink or something?
yes, this is laundry bleach. A bottle of bleach is $2.00 or less. It is great for cleaning all kinds of gross stuff, including your bathroom toilet.
