Light Hunting

There are many ways for you to have fun and relax in the Australian outback. You can sit down and simply look out in to the wilderness, and breathe in the poetry of an almost barren, but silently whispering land. You can look at the wildlife, engage in extreme sports, or simply drive around, bearing witness to an old, old land. But believe it or not, you can also hunt kangaroos, and if you happen to find yourself in the outback with a desire for kangaroo skins and leather, as well as a desire to have a bit of fun, then you may want to consider hunting the three principal species of kangaroo that you can hunt in Australia.
You may think that this is a daunting task, and that it is something that the Australian government should look into. However, the Australian government knows about these hunting activities, and it is legal to hunt kangaroos at night. This, of course, can be inconvenient, especially if you are used to hunting in the day. Kangaroos, nevertheless, are a special breed. Hunting involves stunning them with mounted spotlights, which are usually positioned on the heads of vehicles that go through the Australian outback. Once the kangaroos are stunned by the light, they sit down, and then are shot in the head.
Kangaroos, however, are not stupid animals. Kangaroo hunting can be difficult in the wild weather of the outback. For instance, if winds are too wild and strong, if the moon is too bright, and if it is too wet with rain, then it can be difficult to make a clean shot, let alone get the kangaroos to be stunned and thereby sit. This means that if you would like to go out kangaroo hunting in the outback, you will need to be with a good tour guide and a licensed kangaroo hunting group. Not only will you be able to hunt better and know the behavior of kangaroos at night, you will also keep to the path and not lose your way. Moreover, you will be with people who have the license and the legal means to do hunting. The permits will allow you to use your hunted kangaroo skins in what way you choose.
There are several available services for you in Australia if you wish to get some kangaroo hunting. Some packages will give you discounts on your hunting fees if you already have the International Hunters' Shooting License, and if you have a Recreational Kangaroo Shooting Permit. Fees will be per day, and you may be charged higher if you go on your own, or if you are a non-hunter. These prices may also include food and accommodations, drinks, a collection of weapons, and the help of a guide. You may also need to pay trophy fees for the animals that you hunt.
These are only a few basic facts about kangaroo hunting. There are many ways for you to have fun in Australia, and for you to appreciate the outback, and kangaroo hunting is only one of them. For more information, consult websites online that specialize in kangaroo hunting, and talk to people who have been to Australia, as well as those who have already experienced the thrill of kangaroo hunting. With a lot of research under your belt, and a lot of know-how when it comes to knowing where to go and who to approach, you can have a lot of fun in your kangaroo hunting trip.

do rats & mice like light (heat lamps, lights, etc) when they hunt?
i have a feeling we have some mice in our barn that got in this winter and we get our chickens tomorrow (baby chicks) and i know how they like chicks for supper. i have heard they can see very well and dont like to hunt in light. the light would be the heat lamps. anybody know?
Mice are not a problem other than getting into the chick feed. Rats, now, could be a problem if they are hungry enough to go after the chicks. If that happens, they won't care what kind of light is there. You have two choices: get rid of the rats in a few hours or protect the chicks. You will never kill off the rats because they will always be a threat. The present community can be wiped out. As soon as distant rats find out about the vacancy -- population pressure pushes a new group into the vacancy.
The defense is wire, wire, and more wire. I recommend hardware cloth, which is not cloth. The stuff that has half inch squares, welded, galvanized wire. You buy it in rolls and it is the devil to work with. Build a frame large enough to contain your chicks and cover it with this hardware wire -- all sides of the box frame (includes the bottom also). Access openings must be engineered to keep a rat from squeezing through the hatch edges. I would consider the top to be the hatch, hinged on one side, and the hardware wire wrapped around the hatch frame's exterior. Hatch must be secured tight to the cage frame when closed. Keep the hardware wire on the frame's exterior so the rats must first chew through the wire to get to the frame. I've seen rat chewing damage that was astounding, so inspect the cage daily for attempted rat intrusion.
