Why are rechargeable batteries not recommended for use in a Maglite LED flashlight?
I purchased a small Maglite LED flashlight that takes 3 AA batteries. My thought when I purchased it would be that a child could use it as much as desired without having to spend a fortune on replacement batteries, because we have a steady supply of rechargeable AA batteries and a charger.
When I read the fine print on the flashlight package insert, I notice that it says not to use rechargeable batteries. Why is this?
Is there an elevated risk of fire, chemical burns, or other catastrophies if we use this flashlight with rechargeable batteries?
you need the voltage.
rechargable batteries are 1.2V Alkalines are 1.5V. An LED is a solid state device, that is, the diode only conducts within a voltage curve, unlike a lamp that will go dim, once the LED supply voltage (Vcc) is below the minimum voltage required to conduct, the LED will not light.
3 alkalines is 4.5V while 3 rechargables is only 3.6V and that will roll off quick.
