Manual mode issues?
I have a Minolta 400si and I went out tonight to take some night pictures, with flashlights, flares, sparklers, and fire for my photo class. I had my camera on M, meaning manual, without a variation of shutter speeds between 2 and 15 seconds, an a 5.7 Fstop. My camera didn't want to take pictures.
When I would click and hold the button, it would make noises as if it was auto focusing. It wouldn't make the sound of the roll being exposed and the screen going black through the view hole. It would would autofocus every few seconds. I was only able to take about 3 shots because of this issue.
How can I make it fully auto so it won't guess my choices in the shot and just take it.

The camera is probably either set or made to achieve a proper focus lock before it allows the shutter to go. Since it was night time and you were using a smaller aperture, the camera probably had a hard time focusing; it explains the noise and retry attempts.
Switch the lens to manual focus and the shutter should open as soon as you release it.
