What type of amp should I get for 2 Alpine SWR 1242 D subs?
Looking at ohm's channels and wattage has me a little confused. These 2 alpines are 4 ohm sub woofers with 500w RMS and 1500w peaks. What should I look for in an amp to power these? Thanks
well first of all ignore peak power...rms is the true power those subs can handle...the same goes for an amp...rms watts are the true watts an amp will throw out...so get an amp that's rated at 1000 watts RMS or LESS...if you go higher than 1000 watts rms you run the risk of blowing your subs...you can either get an amp...IF you wire the subs together you can wire them at 1 and 4 ohms IF wired separately then can be wired at 2 and 8 ohms...so you can get an amp that's rated 1000 watts rms at 1 ohm....or a 2 channel amp rated at 500 watts rms at 2 ohms....
