Whirlpool Dryer Heating Element 279838 is a common replacement in the newer style dryers. Recommending to change the thermal cutout kit and the element, lets explain below.
When you are trying to dry your clothes and reach in the dryer when it says its done and the clothes are still wet it's not a wonderful thing.
So now you are automatically thinking it is your heating element. Which it may be but usually the element 279838 is pretty strong and it will just be the thermal cut out kit. If you are well in doubt in testing things with a volt meter than you can simply test to see which one is bad or see it physically.
This goes with any brand of and could easily be tested or seen physically bad.
Always unplug your dryer when you go to test the heating element so you dont hurt your self, but why not replace it your self when it is a simple common repair that would cost you a boat load caling a service man.
Heating element 279838 uses 240 volts pulling about 5200 watts. That reaches about 300+ degrees and then the thermal cut out is what operates the element so your dryer, lint or clothes does not catch on fire.
The average cost on the internet for this part is about 50$. And the thermal kit is about half the cost, but the point being is you will basically have a whole new heating system in your dryer you wouldn't want to replace. It is really worth the repair.

only a few standard halogen bulbs on the market. just pop it out and take it to Lowes or Home Depot to the light bulb section.
