A pocket magnifier with LED illumination can easily be positioned at any angle to provide a better 3D perceptual of the viewing object.
If you want to be more professional, there are magnifiers in the shape of a microscope. They have illumination feature and a ruler that you can measure up to one tenth of a millimeter. They are available in a palm size!
