Screw Base

If you have decided to replace your old kitchen cabinets, you do not necessarily need to have a professional to come out and install the new ones for you. If you do decide to do it on your own, you should have at least basic skills and the appropriate tools in order to install them properly.
The first thing you should do before anything else of course is to remove the old cabinets. Make sure that you remove these very carefully so that there is no damage done that you would have to repair before you can install your new kitchen cabinets. The best thing to do is to first take off the doors and remove all the drawers. And if the shelves are removable make sure to remove those as well. Make sure you have another person there to help you take the cabinets off the wall. They will need to help hold the cabinets as you remove the screws that the cabinets are attached to the walls with.
The first step in installing your new kitchen cabinets is to take a pencil and start three inches from the floor draw a line across making sure it is straight with your level. From the line you need to measure the wall up 34 and a half inches drawing a level line along the wall this will be the top of the base for your cabinets.
Next you will draw a line up from the line you just made; this line should be 19 and a half inches long and mark a level line for the bottom of the wall cabinet. Make sure that you make light marks of the actual dimensions of the cabinets that you are going to install.
The next step is to find the wall studs. Once you have found the studs mark their location with a pencil. These marks should be marked about six inches below the line that was made for the bottom of the wall cabinet.
You should screw a temporary piece of wood that is 1 by 3; this will be used for support purposes only and will be removed when it is no longer needed. Attach the temporary piece of wood on the line that represents the cabinets bottom, the screws should be attached to the studs.
Make sure that you have a person helping you install the cabinets. The first cabinet you will want to install will be the corner cabinet. You will need to make holes through the back of the cabinet and into the studs. Now you will need to use screws that are long enough to screw the cabinet into the wall studs. You will use two screws to attach the cabinets. Take the level to see if the top of the cabinet is level, if not you will need to adjust the screws.
Now you can begin installing the rest of the cabinets making sure that each cabinet is attached to its adjacent cabinet with clamps. With cabinets that have frame faces you should drill one eighth of an inch holes through the sides of the cabinet face, make sure that you only screws. With cabinets that do not have frames you will drill bolt holes and attach with bolts.
Once all the kitchen cabinets are in place install the end base or corner cabinet. If you need to level it more you can use shims to raise the cabinets up. Make sure if you do have to use a shim, make sure that it is level from front to back and side to side and make sure the shim is screwed into the wall studs.
Your final step is to screw the backs of the cabinets to the wall all the way through to the wall studs.

why are light bulbs changing to screwed base?
Not bayonet base but edison screw
That's a good question Paul. Could be for standardization. Could be for safety, but that's a little iffy. The bayonet base isn't really unsafe, but the Edison is more secure, so with CFL bulbs now and mercury fears, that's probably it.
