Smith & Wesson M&P 340 cylinder issue. How freely is the cylinder supposed to spin?
I have a new M&P 340 357 magnum Smith and Wesson. The cylinder spins, but it has some resistance. What is normal? How long should it spin freely before coming to a stop?

This will vary between guns. It is hard to describe just how this should feel. If you lay a finger on the side of the cylinder and pull it across the surface, the cylinder should turn. The cylinder should turn easily, but should not have any apparent free play. If spun at about 10 RPM, it should make between 1 and 3 turns.
You want drag on the cylinder, in a small amount it is a very good thing. It keeps the cylinder from skipping over the bolt. The tighter the cylinder is on the crane, the more accurate the gun, as it controls the alignment between the barrel and the cylinder.
From what you said, I think your gun is just fine.
