Starter Steel

Cooking is an inseparable part of our lives. Otherwise, how else can we make healthy and yummy food. In many generations this has been quite a challenge. Problem being, finding a conductive and non-reactive metal since cooking requires heat conductivity and lack of chemical reactions with food. In the past, pans would be made of reactive materials and then coated with neutral ones. However, today's technology has made it possible to have safe baking pans for cooking made of aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel and carbon steel.
For along time now aluminum baking pans have been considered great for cooking. This is due to their exquisite thermal conductivity i.e. they heat fast and without creating any hot spots they do not corrode or rust. However, they react with certain acidic foods such as egg yolks, asparagus and artichokes thus influencing their taste.
Copper pans are quality when it comes to models with stainless steel linings rather than tin. Traditionally they were made of tinned copper. They were great to heat conductivity and safe from chemical reactions with acidic foods. However, today they are expensive and require periodical re-tinning to their tin layer thinning.
In our homes today, stainless steel and carbon steel baking pans are mostly used. They are immune to corrosion and chemical reactions with acidic food. They however do not conduct heat evenly. Aluminum or copper core is mostly used to rectify this problem. Carbon steel on the other hand heats rapidly but not as well as other materials. Nevertheless, it's suitable for instance where pans require different cooking temperatures.

steel vs. nylon strings on acoustic guitar for starters.?
well im really interested in starting to play acoustic guitar but i have no idea about them at all.
should i get steel or nylon strings?
anything special i should look for?
what brand should i get?
i want a guitar that will last a while but isnt just a basic one thats for starters only. im willing to really work at it.
im not really interested in playing rock songs and stuff like that.
if anyone is familiar with Jason Reeves... i love his guitar playing and would like a guitar that sounds like that [i know it depends on how I play it but im just talking about the general sound of it]
so... any tips? i could really really use them.
Steel strings are louder and brighter sounding. Nylon is easier to play. To start out on nylon has an advantage, but unless you plan on learning classical or flaminco styles, it may be a hidding place for dust bunnies after a while. the Steel will be a harder on your fingers. You will get callouses but if you plan on playing country, folk, rock or electric this is the way to go. I would start with a light to medium gauge string, this will enable you to develop hand and forearm strength. buy one of those finger exersisers or squishy ball things and use it every chance you get. another neat thing with steel strings is that you can either finger pick or use a plectrum (pick) that really opens up what styles you can learn to play.
as far as brands, I say a good fair priced steel like lower line Alverez, takamine ($500 range).
check the action. the strings should not be high off the neck. at the same time run you finger down the neck plucking each note to check for "dead" frets. if it buzzes or doesn't sound right, it 's not good.
and of course with all things expensive- do your homework. Ask Questions. Check prices at online shops, DO NOT pay anywhere near suggested retail. Most good shops will work with you in finding the right instrument within your budget and of best quality. They know where you have to buy strings, picks and want you to return to buy the item. Since most play music, its a good idea to befriend a cool salesperson- they'll let you know of deals, and help you out if you need repairs or have musical/gear questions.
hope this helps!
