Steel Flashlight
Yesterday, in my town, some Geniuses decided to rob a local Cash store. Two men walked in, demanded money, fired a shot and ran out to a waiting car which had three others in it. So far, this is not an unusual occurrence as it is happening more and more around the country.
Within minutes, the Sheriff's Department, the local police department and police from neighboring towns had the streets blocked off. The dog's were brought in and soon helicopters were flying overhead. Within hours, they had caught all five. One was cowering in the bathroom of a local car repair company.
Also, within minutes, all schools were in lock-down. As soon as code red was announced over the speakers, the teachers immediately locked the classroom doors, covered the glass, pulled down all shades on the windows and the children, in all three elementary schools, went under their desks and stayed there for hours.
Police were at all entrances of the schools, making sure none of the five could gain access to them. When the police thought it was safe, parents were allowed to get their elementary school children. All parents had to wait outside the school property, and had to show identification. Each child was escorted out by an adult who personally gave the child to the waiting parent. It did not matter of the child usually walked or rode home alone. No child was allowed to leave the school property until a parent came for that child.
I am very proud of the way things were handled with the children. I am writing this for all parents.
Find out what emergency contingent is in place for a code red in your children's schools. If there is none, get involved and make your voices heard. My town did an excellent job of protecting our children. Make sure your town does as well.
