You might be surprised by how much energy traditional incandescent Christmas lights use. Many of the larger lights use about five watts per bulb. A string of a hundred Christmas lights can run 500 watts per hour. If your lights are on for six hours per day for a month then that one strand may use 90 kilowatts. At 10 cents per watt that strand will cost you $9.00 to run for the season.
Solar lights are more efficient than incandescents. They use light emitting diodes or LEDs. This LED lighting uses a fraction of the electricity that traditional incandescent Christmas lights use. Because they require little energy, a strand of LEDs can be powered by a small solar panel and rechargeable batteries. Just think of how your holiday house guests will oooh and awww over your solar toys!
Solar string lights are eco-friendly. Each kilowatt hour of electricity produced by fossil fuels will generate up to 2.3 pounds of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a gas that creates a layer of insulation in the atmosphere. This means that light from the sun passes through the atmosphere easily, initially. However, the heat from that would usually go back into space instead gets trapped and ends up warming up the planet. Scientists call this "global warming". By reducing carbon emissions we can help find global warming solutions. By using solar powered LED Christmas lights, you can help reduce our dependence on fossil fuel and save electricity. By replacing a strand of traditional incandescent Christmas lights with solar lights and solar panels, you are reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions by 207 pounds for the holiday season.
Lastly, solar LED rope lights can be a money saver and a money maker! By using solar rope lights you can save money on your electricity bill. And, as a remarkable added benefit, you can bring in some extra income by selling sugar cookies to the hordes of admirers who drive by your house to oogle over your dancing Santa and prancing elves.
I, personally, wasn't going to decorate my lawn this year but now that I've convinced myself of the monetary upside potential of such lights I'm off to my local store right now!

Where can I find cute string lights for a dorm room?
I am putting string lights under my loft bed and I was wondering where can I find cute lights? Like ones shaped like hearts or lantern like lights. Where can I find some so I can make my room look cute?
If you have a "fun party" type of store near you they will generally have specialty lights like that. Also check at Lowe's and HOme Depot, as well as Target in the gardening departments.
