Tactical Flashlight

Do you know how to protect yourself? I don't mean, have you learned some self defense moves or even earned a martial arts belt of whatever color. I mean...
...can you really protect yourself:
Against an attacker who is bigger, stronger, and more intent on harming someone than you are?
In any environment?
Even if you are unarmed and your assailant has a weapon?
From multiple attackers?
When there's no one else around to protect you, and the police are miles away?
Because, that's what we're talking about when we're discussing self-defense, or self-protection.
Far too many so-called "experts" would have you believe that you can learn a quick move or two and, in no time flat, you'll be able to leave any attacker flat on his back in a pool of his own body fluids.
Maybe you can and maybe you can't.
But, before you get too wrapped up in the fact that you have a purple belt with pink polka dots, or the fact that you've been certified in whatever "Kick-butt-of-the-Week" super program that's being sold, you should understand one very important thing. And that is this...
"Your attacker is not going to let you do your cool techniques on him!"
Do you understand what that means? It doesn't mean that all your training is for nothing.
What it DOES mean is that, to escape from, restrain, or beat an attacker who has far more experience at harming other human beings than you do...
To defend yourself against an attacker who has singled you out as someone they think they have the advantage over...
To survive against a bigger, stronger, more brutal assailant who doesn't care what you know, how important you think you are, or what color your belt is...
You are going to need more than the physical, step-by-step techniques typically taught in most of the martial arts and self-defense classes out there.
You're going to need to be able to think strategically, and be able to very quickly assess a situation if you stand a chance of turning the tables in a real-life self protection situation where you are the underdog!
So, I'd like to offer 3 critical strategies that you will need to be able to use effectively - if you're going to be able to create a situation where you have the momentary advantage and can successfully apply your techniques on him. They are:
1) Control the distance - Regardless of the technique your using, the weapon your facing, or if you're just trying to avoid his attacks, you must be able to control the distance between yourself and your assailant. Controlling the distance means understanding what the best distance is in different situations. It means being too close or too far away from his attacks - and not relying on just one "official" way to do things.
2) Use effective timing - This means to take advantage of the holes in his movements. It means to be able to defend or evade his attack while simultaneously attacking him with your own technique. You must be able to operate in such a way as to have your attacker busy missing with his own punch, grab, or kick - to be reeling from your last assault - so that you have the time and, more importantly, the freedom to execute your own move without fear of him defending against it, or using it against you.
3) Employ effective positioning - You must be able to protect your own targets at all times. This requires an effective posture that allows you to be stable and on-balance, while at the same time removing your important targets, and covering those that can't be removed, from his reach.
As you can see, self defense and the ability to protect yourself is a much deeper subject than many of the so-called teachers, masters, and experts - both online and off - would have you believe.
Do you have to be able to do all of these things in a self defense situation. No. But then you don't have to breath either, but if you want to be able to do other things without dying...
...I highly suggest it!
Do you really want to have the advantage in a real-world street self defense situation. Do you want to know how to protect yourself against an attacker who's bigger, stronger, or more skilled than you? How? By learning more than a few step-by-step moves that might get you killed instead of saving your life. If you want more than a cool belt when it comes to street self defense, then you must read my new book, "Fight Smarter - Not Harder!" You can download it for free here: http://www.warrior-concepts-online.com/street-fighting-self-defense-book.html
Jeffrey Miller teaches individuals, groups, and companies how to be safe in an often unsafe world. Every month he teaches thousands of students from all over the world, how to take control of their own safety and self protection.
Brightest tactical flashlight with the longest burntime?
There are many extreme ones made by specialized companies (surefire to name one) that are extremely bright and extremely expensive. If you are mounting it on a gun, I do not have much advice for you. If you to use it as a normal flashlight, I would go with the Fenix TK-40, as it puts out 630 lumens, has multiple modes (low 13 lumens, med 93 lumens, high 277 lumens, turbo 630 lumens) and submodes (low slow flash, med sos flash, high fast flash, turbo strobe) It is the size of a 2 D cell maglite and runs on 8 aa batteries, get 8 sanyo eneloop rechargables and a charger when you order it, and use the eneloops mainly, however if you need to use it and the eneloops run low, keep 8AA around to swap out.
