Tent Backpacking
If you are a beginner at backpacking and have never really done it before you should be aware of one or two things before you go out on the trail. To be able to really enjoy backpacking you need to have some knowledge about it as it will help you to successfully plan your trips, be safe and above all, have a great time. But, as with all other hobbies or activities you need to learn all about it first before you take it on.
One of the best things you can do when it comes to learning all about backpacking is to read up on it. There are great backpacking magazines and books around to learn from and there are many forums online where you can ask questions and get great answers from the experts. Understand about the possible pitfalls you may come across whilst backpacking and learn how to stay safe.
It is essential that you learn about the correct gear that you need to take when you go backpacking. Going backpacking usually means not only hiking - but camping too. This means getting a tent and sleeping bag etc.... that is suitable and small enough to fit into your backpack.
Learning how to pack your backpack is a skill in itself. Although a beginner may be tempted to take everything they think they need - this is not as simple and practical as it will weigh you down and hence slow you down. Take only the things you will actually need and be smart by thinking of multiple uses for the equipment that you will take.
Learn how to make repairs whilst you are on your backpacking trip. There are a few small essentials that you really must take when embarking on a backpacking trip. For example, duct tape is invaluable if you have a broken tent or broken strap on your backpack.
Learn first aid. You never know when somebody may need you help and support to stabilize a situation whilst professional help is on its way.
Listen to other backpackers and learn form their experiences. Above all - stay safe - and have fun.

3 Man lightweight backpacking tent?
I am doing D of E and the equipment we get lent is ATROCIOUS! Think wrong poles, ripped flysheets and ripped groundsheets. So, I need a light-ish 3 person backapcking tent, suitable for 3 seasons. I have about £100 to spend. I have looked at the "Coleman Avior X3 Exponent". Have any of you got it, and is it any good?
This is a great tent in your price range and will get you there and back for years. I would stay away from the coleman. They were a great company but in recent years they have gone way down in quality.
